6/5 mm wetsuit

Written by

A 6/5 mm wetsuit, also called a 6.5 or 6 mm is a rare example of an extremely warm winter wetsuit, usually combined with a built in hood. 6/5 mm refers to the main neoprene thickness used in individual panels which are stitched together to make a wetsuit. Usually the thicker 6mm panels are used in the main body panels for extra warmth and the 5mm thick panels are used in the more flexible areas such as arms, shoulders and back lower legs. A 6/5 mm wetsuit is made of 6 and 5 mm panels. The collar panel is often thinner than 3mm, but this is usually not mentioned in the thickness description of a wetsuit. A 6/5 mm wetsuit is a bit less flexible than the more common 6/4 mm option.
